Recently, southwest Virginia Tesla drivers have seen an unusual icon for the last few days in the charging page of the Tesla app: a map pin hosting a circle with a slash through it. (Technically, it's a reversed prohibition symbol.)
While they're not infallible, the Supercharger stations have been reliable enough that few drivers even consider that they may be offline. Since the satnav in the Tesla gets near real time updates on the status of a Supercharger and chooses charging stations on a road trip, there is little reason to give it any thought.
So, why is this one down?
According to PlugShare users, the Salem Supercharger is offline until April 2021 while the Sheetz hosting it is under renovation.
I'm looking forward to this one coming back online. Typically, coming back from northern Virginia, I'll have to stop to add enough charge to get home either here or in Lexington, and the Salem location simply has more things around it. Unlike most locations with a Supercharger, this Sheetz didn't have an indoor dining area. Hopefully, they'll add one as part of the renovation.
